The Peter Principle
Chris Watson of Endor Learn & Develop challenges conventional wisdom in terms of the best way to develop people. Here, he touches on the consequences of The Peter Principle which states that in many organisations people tend to get promoted right up to level of their own incompetence – ie they reach a level where they are no longer competent in a new role and so end up getting stuck at this level. Invariably it is because the skills of one job do not always translate to another.
